Island Adventure: From Chaos on the Road to Paradise!
The alarm clock rings (well, not really, we’re on vacation!), and the first thing I do is peek out onto the terrace. Breathtaking views! The turquoise blue of the sea, the swaying palm trees… all that’s missing is to see if my daughter has already found the famous “flesh-colored” crabs (her peculiar way of describing them) or some clueless iguana.
Quick but delicious breakfast: eggs, juice, coffee, and fresh bread. Energy for the adventure! We load up: cooler, drinks, snorkel gear, fins, even the frisbee goes in the backpack! Heading to town, the road is a festival of vegetation and floral aromas. A preview of the paradise that awaits us!
But… hold on! The rainy season had a surprise for us: the road turned into an obstacle course! Giant puddles, hidden rocks… it looked like a rally race! We hesitated a bit; our rental car isn’t exactly a 4×4. But we see other brave souls venturing out, even regular cars!
To top it off, a scooter with two passengers struggles to maintain balance in that mud pit. They looked like they were straight out of an action movie! We ask them if it’s worth continuing, and with a smile, they encourage us: “It’s just a short stretch! Even worse cars have made it through!”. And so it was! We move forward carefully, praying not to get stuck! After a few scares, we finally see the end of the road!
At the dock, Captain Tomates awaits us (a name that already promises good things!). A super friendly guy who tells us stories and answers all our questions. He even introduced us to Pancho, a passenger’s dog, who looked exactly like the one from The Mask! And, as if that weren’t enough, he recommended his wife’s conch ceviche. Noted!
We cross by boat to Passion Island. And then… BAM! Paradise reveals itself before our eyes! Dunes of white sand, turquoise water, a gentle breeze… a dream come true! We bury the drinks in the sand (umbrella for another day!) and run into the warm water.
Snorkeling, walks along the coast, playing with the waves… a perfect day! Even a light rain gave the experience a magical touch. On our way back, curious raccoons waved goodbye! And to top it all off, Captain Tomates was waiting for us with his smile. Definitely, one day in paradise is not enough!
